Gourd Grand Master Arturo Ramirez conducted a "Ramos Polychrome” class at Blue Raven Studio in Tucson on 6 April 2017. If you attended the 2017 Wuertz Festival, you may remember the ginormous example of this style in the Grand Master display, submitted by Arturo. The 18 attendees included members of Old Pueblo Gourd Patch and Green Valley Gourd Patch. We began at 9, and Arturo opened with a brief history of the Mimbres culture, before showing us how to replicate the Ramos Polychrome technique. We students didn’t attach a macaw head to the container, but Arturo explained how he executes the 3-day process. At 3 p.m., we cleaned up and headed home. Thanks, Diana Douglas for organizing the event, Lynne East-Itkin for hosting and Arturo Ramirez for the instruction!
